90-minute Mental Health First Aid Overview
The 90-minute Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Overview is a session for departments, units, teams and affinity groups. The overview provides a basic summary of MHFA, common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, how to apply the MHFA framework, and discussion of university, local and national mental health resources. NOTE: The overview does not provide MHFA certification. Learn more about MHFA.
Overview objectives
- Understand what Mental Health First Aid is, why it’s important, and what the difference is between the full training and overview session.
- Recognize some common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
- Learn what the Mental Health First Aid action plan is and how it is applied.
- Identify Northwestern, local, and national mental health resources.
Requests
- Although the overview is 90-minutes, scheduling 2 hours for the session is highly recommended to allow additional time for travel, questions, and other things that may arise.
- The session is facilitated by Human Resources, Well-being staff.
- The session can be provided in-person or virtually.
- A minimum of 10 participants is required.
- The requestor is responsible for securing space for an in-person session or creating and managing a virtual link for a virtual session.
- Requests are fulfilled in the order they are received.
