Hosting a Lactation Room
Lactation rooms are available to provide a private, secure space for new mothers to express milk.
Guidelines for units and schools
Room owners tend to be departments located within the building in which a lactation room is located. The department chair or administrator typically appoints a specific individual on staff to serve as point person for the program. The point person will work with the Work/Life & Family Resources and Facilities Management staff to establish a lactation room.
Lactation Room Owner agrees to the following:
- Work with Work/Life & Family Resources and Facilities Management to ensure there is a functioning WildCARD access reader.
- Work with Work/Life & Family Resources to establish an Outlook calendar for reservations.
- Provide Work/Life & Family Resources staff access to the lactation room.
- Agree to identify a local contact who will have access to the room and report to Facilities Management any maintenance or cleaning needs.
If your school/department wishes to host a room, review the design guidelines for establishing a lactation room. Contact the lactation@northwestern.edu if you have additional questions.
