Repatriation Leave (Qatar)
Staff members from Northwestern’s US locations who accept an assignment in NU-Qatar will be extended a six-month unpaid Repatriation Leave upon return to the United States at the conclusion of their assignment in NU-Qatar. Service credit will continue to accrue during the leave.
Notification and request for Repatriation Leave
You should notify the Benefits Division a minimum of 30 days prior to the start of a Repatriation Leave. A Leave of Absence request form must be requested from and submitted to the Benefits Division for approval of the designated leave period.

Benefits while on leave
- You may use accrued vacation or personal floating holiday time during your Repatriation Leave.
- You may continue your current benefit plans for up to six months by paying any applicable employee contribution.
- The dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA) is temporarily frozen during a leave of absence.
- Commuter benefits are temporarily terminated when on a leave of absence. These benefits can only be used when you are actively at work. The deadline to make changes to commuter benefits is the 5th of the month prior. Please make any necessary changes prior to that deadline.
