Spouse Term Life Insurance
Spouse Term Life Insurance provides the opportunity for individuals to purchase term life insurance protection for their spouse or partner. For more information, browse the summary plan description.
Coverage
- Available in $10,000 increments.
- Cannot exceed the employee’s total basic plus supplemental election.
- Maximum of $500,000.
Coverage at hire or initial benefits eligibility
Upon hire, you are guaranteed coverage of $50,000 regardless of health status. If you wish to elect more than $50,000 of coverage for their spouse, you must complete Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
After enrollment, you will be prompted in the system to complete EOI with MetLife. You will be taken to MetLife's secure portal to complete this request. When EOI is required, to evaluate your request a valid social security number is required for you and/or your dependents to complete the underwriting process.
Increase coverage
After initial eligibility, you may increase coverage up to $50,000 within 31 days of a qualifying change in family or employment status without underwriting online via myHR. Coverage amounts greater than $50,000 require Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
Changes during Open Enrollment:
- For those already enrolled in Spouse Term Life Insurance Plan, you may increase coverage by $10,000 not to exceed $50,000 in coverage without EOI. Any increase over $10,000 or in excess of $50,000 will require EOI.
- For those not enrolled in Spouse Term Life Insurance Plan must go through EOI for any enrollment.
- If EOI is required, after enrollment you will be prompted in the system to complete EOI with MetLife. You will be taken to MetLife's secure portal to complete this request. - Login to myHR (using your Net ID and Password)
- Select the “Benefits” tile in “myHR Self Service”
- Select “My Health Benefits Elections” (in the left-hand menu)
- Select “Get Started”
